This thankful business is easy, yet hard. I'm so thankful for everything, that it's hard to pinpoint just what makes me thankful the most day to day. I'm thankful for having a vehicle that runs and gets my family safely to and from our activities. Would we better off without a vehicle?! Maybe. But it helps develop our minds when we are able to go to the library, zoo, museum, aquarium, etc. I'm blessed to have a dependable vehicle and love that we don't have many boundaries when we set our minds to it!
Greater happiness will be achieved if we can try to: Help others. Sharing your time or talents with the less fortunate can help you appreciate how much you truly have and feel better about your circumstances. This couldn't be any more true than right now. No matter how terrible we think life is, we are fortunate to have a house, car, heat and the ability to make our kids happy. There are so many people, adults and children, who have nothing. I'm a firm believer in love can see you through almost anything, but it's hard to watch other people suffer.
This is a place where I come to vent, chat, share and ask advice!

Day 17
My grandparents made me a big part of who I am and today, I'm VERY thankful for them. All 6 of them. Not many people are lucky enough to have 6 grandparents, but I was - and I'm thankful I got to spend time with all of them. I only have my maternal grandmother left, but the value of life from each of them is invaluable to me, still to this day!
Forgive and forget. Refusing to forgive fosters anger and resentment, which makes your own life miserable. Let go and put your energy into something positive so that you can be happier. Today, I'd like to say, NO KIDDING! If only people would listen and do this, instead of insisting they do it. Yet the next time, they still can't be in the same room as so and so, or can't understand why so and so gets to do this, or why anyone would spend time with so and so. Seriously.... people. GROW UP! It's time to let the past be the past. Move on. Make yourself happy and you'll learn that everyone else is happier!

Day 16
Thankful today for my Brother. He has always been there for me, even in the 'dark' ages! He let me live with him when I didn't have many other choices. Now he's married to a wonderful woman and they have given our family two amazing gifts - my nephew and niece!! Without any of them, my family wouldn't be complete!!
Today's greater happiness tip: Play with your pet. Simply petting an animal can decrease anxiety, depression, and blood pressure. So give your pet a little extra attention and you'll increase your own calmness and pleasure. I MISS MY BABY! It's been almost 2 years since we had to put him down, and we are just starting to think about the pet phase again. But I remember how the unconditional love a his little face would brighten any day!!! Miss you BeBop!!

Day 15
Today I'm thankful for food. I know that sounds funny, but I'm thankful that we don't have to struggle for food. There are days when I haven't prepped for supper, but there's always options. I know too many people that go to bed hungry at night or don't have the means to eat 3 meals a day. Please keep those people in mind when you're shopping for Thanksgiving meal ingredients. Give to the food shelf - you never know when it might be you that needs a helping hand!
Tip for the day: Don't compare yourself to others. Happy people judge themselves by their own yardsticks, never against what others do or have. Keep up with yourself-not the Joneses. Hard to follow sometimes, but it goes back to the positive thinking! Keep these in minds when your days don't seem good and you want what the neighbor has....Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's. Only YOU can make YOU happy!!

Day 14
Most days I'm thankful for my job! Some people wouldn't call it a 'job', but then they've never been a stay at home parent. Parenting is a tough job and even when you work, it's a non-stop commitment. Now imagine doing it 24/7 for 18+ years!! I don't usually leave the house without at least one kid attached to me. Yes, I feel guilty when I ask for 2 hours to myself. Yes, I miss them when they aren't with me, but it all connects. I am thankful for the opportunity to raise my kids and feel like I'm not missing out on a lot of events that I might if I worked (now, that being said, I will go back to work at some point!!!)
The tip for greater happiness today: Exercise regularly. Physical activity produces "feel good chemicals" (endorphins) in the brain, which promote satisfaction and well-being. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise, most days of the week. Another one I have to work on. I try to keep active with my kids everyday. Somedays I don't feel like it and some days it's more weight type (lifting and stretching) but I would like to physically do more to get in shape. Maybe resolution (Plan) #2 for the new year :D

Day 13
Today I'm thankful for my in-laws! I love being accepted into a family for just being me! I know not everyone is as lucky to be blessed in this aspect, but my father in law, mother in law and all my brother and sister in laws have been awesome! It's like an extension of my own family, only about triple the size :D I'm thankful that they accept our schedules and lifestyles so they are willing to work around many obstacles in life. Love you and thank you all!!
Today's happiness point: Be optimistic. A positive outlook is associated with better health, a longer life, and greater joy. When you look to the bright side and believe people are good, you directly increase your own happiness. I wish I could stamp this on EVERYTHING! I really dislike the negativity and blaming of others. If you smile and look at the bright side of any situation, you'll feel like nothing is impossible!

Day 12
Another pretty easy one.. MUSIC. I'm thankful for music and all that it has done for my life. There's very few instances in life that music can't help either soothe or help celebrate :) I'm lucky enough to have found someone to spend my life with that feels pretty much the same way! Music is our life -and a major downfall - we want to see as many concerts, shows, bands as we can fit in (and sometimes can't afford :( )
The tip for Greater Happiness: Eat chocolate! Dark chocolate is healthy in moderation, but it can also increase well-being and boost your mood. Savor a small piece to satisfy that craving. Now that's a great piece of advice! I don't crave chocolate often (about 1 day a month...you figure it out ;D) and I'm trying to remember to make it dark chocolate.... not always easy, and it takes a few times getting used to it, but overall, it's not that bad and it's a 'healthier' choice than milk chocolate!

Day 11
This was way too simple today! Today (and everyday) I'm thankful to live in America! I'm thankful for all the Armed Forces and their families that sacrifice so much so that the rest of us can live in this great country. I'm thankful for the people that have given the ultimate sacrifices and wrote a check to the United States of America for the cost of their life. THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS and all men and women currently serving! Without any of you, we wouldn't be able to do most of what we do everyday!! Prayers are sent up for all of you each and every day! THANK YOU!!
Greater Happiness for the day: Start a journal. Use it to record positive experiences and things you are thankful for. Read your own words during times when you feel down to remember how fortunate you truly are. And that's what this month of blogging is for me!! There haven't been many times in my life that I haven't recorded somehow, either online or in an actual journal. I find soothing to write it out (Vent frustrations, share joys, etc) even if no one ever finds it. I'm a writer by nature and I'd rather do that to weigh out pros and cons than fight over silly things!

Day 10
Today I'm thankful for my friends! I don't have a ton of friends, but I have a great list of acquaintances and an amazing list of a few besties!! They've all been there or helped me out in one way or another over the past many years!! I don't let people get to know me well very easily, but I'm friendly to just about everyone. I feel like you can not have too many connections and sometimes a simple "Hi, how are you?" and a smile goes a long way in someone's life! So THANK YOU to all those people in my life!! :D
Greater happiness tip of day 10: Simplify your life. Unburden yourself of possessions that lock you in the "rat race" of earning more money to pay for more things you don't really need. Spend time and resources on things that add real meaning to your life. Funny, that this is the tip today... I really want to take the Dave Ramsey classes on Financial Freedom that will be offered at my Church in the new year. I'm hoping my husband will be willing to let us do this too! We both know we need to work on this, but it's easier to say than do I think! This is probably one of my resolutions for the new year!!

Day 9
TODAY (was) IS MY MOMMY'S BIRTHDAY! I already said how thankful I am for her, but I'm truly blessed to have someone who was not only my mom but also an amazing person growing up! LOVE YOU!!!
Today I'm thankful for our home. There are many people that don't have even half of what we have and we are very blessed to be able to live in a house, run the air conditioning/heat to make it comfortable and fill it with toys, games, furniture and such (sometimes TOO much!!) :D We are blessed to be able to have a house that allows a family to live comfortably! It's a great house and we're blessed to fill it with lots of love!
Today's greater happiness tip: Savor every bite. Eat in a calm environment and use all of your senses to explore the texture, smell, appearance and flavor of your food. You'll be more satisfied after every meal. Okay...this is one I know we need to work on. I try to make our meal time comfortable and calm, but with two small kids, it's not always possible!!

Day 8
After a brief hiatus, I'm back :D Did anyone miss me?!?!
Thanksgiving for day 8 - I'm thankful for the teachers in my children's lives. Whether it be at school, church, or just in their lives, it takes a special person to be a 'teacher'. Bless them all for taking the time out of their days to try and enrich my kids!! THANK YOU!
A tip for Greater happiness: Make time for yourself. Pursuing personal growth is just as important as spending time with others. Pencil in some "me" time, even if it's just a few minutes each day. This is why I feel it's important for me (a SAHM mom) to have the hour or so in the mornings. It's my shower time, maybe have a cup of tea (or can of diet coke) and just enjoy the peace and quiet of no husband and no kids... some days, I do use an extra 10-15 minutes of just lying in bed and being all snuggled up in the blankets!

Day 7
WHEW - I'm caught up (for today :D) You might think it's not that hard, but to come up with something everyday to be thankful for isn't as easy as it sounds!
Day 7 - I'm thankful for opportunity to reconnect with my Dad. We've never had a fantastic relationship (that I remember) and since he's medical diagnosis, it's only gone down hill. I'm so thankful we moved him closer to us... it will benefit all of us in the long run.
Day 7 Happiness hint: Smile! Grinning, even if you don't feel happy, releases serotonin in the brain, instantly lifts your mood and makes you feel better. Plus, smiling people are viewed as sincere, attractive, and sociable. GOSH....I like being right! SMILE PEOPLE...it's the most attractive thing you'll ever wear!! If you ever have wondered why I'm in a good mood, it's because I believe life is meant to be lived! SMILE!!!!

Day 6
Extra thankful for the sunshine. Do you know why?! It makes people happier! :) Including me! I love seeing the sunshine, even if I don't go out in it, or if it's -40 degrees. I LOVE sunshine!!! Thank You!!
Leading to greater happiness: Find meaningful work. The nature of your job isn't as important as how you approach it. A positive attitude and a focus on the meaning behind your work make it more rewarding. Again, it kind of goes with yesterday's tip. Take time to volunteer and make your life more meaningful if you think you can't get 'rewarding' careers started now. A POSITIVE ATTITUDE - LOVE THAT!! People, it's a waste of my time and yours if you continually are in a bad mood or do nothing but complain! Turn that attitude around and I'll place money on you're life will improve!!

Day 5
Here is day 5's thankful moment - I'm thankful for my health. Overall, we are healthy family, but I'm watching my extended family deal with cancer and the pain of losing someone close to them. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but the inevitable is there. My kids are healthy and happy, my husband is healthy and I'm healthy. Yes, we could do more to get even more healthy, but for this day and age, we don't take meds except vitamins and the occasional ibuprofen, etc.... Too many people take drugs to help them. I understand, I'm just thankful that it's not me right now.
Day 5 to greater happiness: Take action. If you don't like your job or other life circumstances, make a plan and take charge. You create of your own reality, and you can change your life if you're unhappy. Start today! SERIOUSLY... I say this to people all the time. Step out of the comfort zone if your zone is starting to wear you down! This may not be a prime time to switch jobs, but start looking for one if you're that unhappy. Don't quit the current job until you have another lined up...but stop complaining about it! YOU make YOU happy and everything else falls into place!! Stop looking for someone to blame in circumstances...you're an adult (or almost) and it's time to grow up.

Day 4
Fell behind this weekend, but I'll catch up!! :)
Day 4 -I'm thankful that I'm living in a community where knowing your neighborhood is more important than where you work, what you drive, how big your house is. My kids can play in the neighborhood with the kids and I feel like they are safe. Granted, I do keep an eye on them, but they can stay in my line of sight, but still be playing baseball or riding bikes. So many communities aren't like that anymore and I'm thankful my kids get to reap the benefits of a small town.
Greater happiness tip: Cultivate friendships. The happiest people spend the least time alone. Attend social gatherings, host a party, and call your close friends to catch up as often as possible. I have a hard time with this one, but I'm striving to make an effort. Even if the social event is a church related event, or kid friendly, attend. Stop making excuses to why you don't want to go and get out there. Make some new friends, see some old ones and just don't forget how to have an adult conversation. This, by no means, is saying, go out every night and never have down time...that's not healthy either! My biggest issue is my childless friends. They don't quite understand how I can stay home and be perfectly happy - these kids and my family are my life!! That does not mean, stop inviting me to things - I like to get out of the house just as much as anyone, but understand, especially on weekends, I'm more apt to want to go to Chuck E. Cheese's than the bar. IF it's that important that I get out of the house, give some notice...babysitters are few and far between (and NOT cheap!)

Day 3
Today I'm thankful for my Mom and Stepdad. Without them, I would've never grown into the person I am today. They stuck by my side and helped me out of so many jams in the past. They never waivered (at least to my face) no matter what time I called, or whatever kind of 'issues' I got myself into those times. They showed me how to be happy with who I am and how to carry myself in the face of trouble. I'm pretty sure I will never be able to tell them all the things the showed me, even when I wasn't 'listening' :) but I did learn a lot from them. I'm positive there will never be a way to pay them back, so I hope watching as I grew into a role of wife and mom they got some satisfaction!! :) I love them both very much and can't imagine where I'd be without them!!
The greater happiness tip of the day: Develop your spirituality. Research shows that people who are spiritual tend to be both happier and healthier than those who are not. Consider meditation, spiritual readings, prayer or other religious practices. I touched on this a little bit yesterday in my Thankful for :) but I truly believe that finding something to help you connect with your inner self will greatly improve your happiness (AND health!!)

A New Month!
It's November and a month of Thanksgiving (and MY BIRTHDAY :D)
I am going to post two things everyday... One that I'm thankful for and one that I feel will help lead to greater happiness!!
My Thankful for yesterday (since I missed it) : I'm thankful for my wonderful family. With this I mean my kids (stepson included!) and husband! (the extended will be a different thing for different reasons). Without these 4 people, my life would be empty. Before any of these wonderful people came in my life, I felt like I was going through the motions and not sure what direction my life was suppose to take. That all changed when I met my husband and stepson. Then we added two more adorable kids to the mix and I know now exactly what I'm suppose to do with my life!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!!!
Yesterday's leading to greater happiness tip: Start a hobby. People who engage in captivating activities are more satisfied with life. Lose yourself (and your worries) by sewing, writing, cooking or dancing.
With that advice, I've decided to start scrapbooking. I have about 5 years worth to catch up on, but I plan to start doing that soon!!! AND I've fallen in love with cooking/baking all over again! I've even started looking at the art of canning stuff and saving money that way :)
Today's thankful: I'm thankful and elated that I found a church home again! After a few years of searching and looking at different houses of worship, I feel like I've found a home in the church I chose. I started looking because I remember the friendships and connections I had in my church growing up and I didn't want my kids to miss out on that opportunity. In the process, I found a part of me that was missing...not saying that I didn't have God in my life, but I feel truly blessed to have found a fantastic church family.
Today's great happiness tip: Get plenty of sleep. Keep a consistent sleep schedule and get 7-8 hours each night for more energy and less moodiness. I've been trying to do this consistently for about 6 weeks... it helps with overall health! It's not always easy and doesn't always happen, but it makes a huge difference in the kind of day we have if we all get a proper amount of sleep. Remember, we have bedtime routines for the kids, so we should start our own as adults!!!
