Bad Planning On Your Part Does NOT Constitute An Emergency On Mine.
Seriously..... this has been my motto since I started working in offices. NOW it is with some of my friends. Take care of your stuff and it'll be so less stressful.
When you make a mistake, admit it.
When you "overbook" yourself and can't handle everything, take a step back and say No. I don't think anyone will be too upset if you have to take a day or two to "fix" things.....
